“Presenting Italian wines in Paris is like a French pizzaiolo trying to make pizzas in Naples,” explained the photographer, who was surrounded by his wife, his three children and hundreds of friends including Alexandre Mattiussi.
Mattiussi, a self-proclaimed fan of Toscani’s photography and a friend of the family, said he had the privilege to stay at the family estate in Tuscany. “They make the most succulent olive oil; you put it everywhere, even in shampoos.”
Guests also got their copies signed of the book that includes Toscani’s numerous advertising campaigns, particularly his work with Benetton from 1982 to 2000, which occasionally provoked lawsuits and boycotts, in addition to editorial work appearing in Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle.
The photographer is working on a book for Louis Vuitton on Matera.
Toscani’s son, Rocco, who recently put his photography career in limbo recently to focus on wine-making, revealed the family estate is to introduce a rosé wine next year.
