Pi\u00f9 di 50 anni di magnifici fallimenti\u201d at Whitelight Art Gallery, inside the workspace Copernico Milano.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Running until April 28, the gallery lines up about 400 images, showing the provocative and controversial subjects that shaped Toscani\u2019s career, such as death penalty, AIDS, war, anorexia, homosexuality and racism.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The exhibition, curated by Nicolas Ballario, mixes\u00a0photos without a particular chronological order: the \u201cMagnificent Failures,\u201d so called by the photographer, establishes a huge collection which revolves around all of Toscani\u2019s works for different international magazines, such\u00a0as Vogue, Harper\u2019s Bazaar, GQ, Elle and brands including Mis- soni, Giorgio Armani, Elio Fiorucci, Chanel and Valentino.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit focuses on the power of the image and Toscani\u2019s \u201chumanity,\u201d said gallerist Giorgia Sarti. \u201cSome criticize his works, some love him&#8230;But everybody knows him,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>To be sure, it is difficult to forget the explicit and transgressive campaigns that made history, such as the kiss between a priest and a nun, used for a United Colors of Benetton campaign, or the shocking photograph to denounce anorexia of French model Isabelle Caro for a Nolita campaign.<\/p>\n<p>During his career, Toscani worked with important artists,\u00a0who became friends and subjects of his portraits, such as Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Carmelo Bene and Federico Fellini.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic slogan \u201cChi mi ama, mi segua [Those who love me, follow me]\u201d displayed on the backside of model Donna Jordan in Hot Pants for the Jesus Jeans campaign is unforgettable, as is his portrait of an African boy with eyes of different colors, which inspired David Bowie for his song \u201cBlack Tie, White Noise.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 3\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>During the inauguration day on Feb. 15, a specific area of the gallery was dedicated to the project \u201cRazza Umana [Human Race],\u201d which started in 2007: Toscani shot 40 portraits of\u00a0individuals, offering a kind of eye-camera dialog moment, also sharing the photos with an autograph.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe photo tells a story, and reveals what you can\u2019t understand about these people,\u201d said Toscani. \u201cMy goal is the research of an individual story. Photos with top models are appreciated because they\u2019re empty, so perfect. The aesthetics is mediocrity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toscani will start on Feb. 25 and 26 a project whereby \u201cPeople could learn to remove virtuosity from photography,\u201d he said, in a Masterclass workshop around the world. The first leg is in Italy\u2019s Rimini.<\/p>\n<p>Toscani is a force of nature and he knows he\u2019s hard to stop as he concluded \u201cWish me the best because I\u2019ll die doing this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Running until April 28, the gallery lines up 400 images showing the provocative and controversial subjects that shaped Toscani\u2019s career.
